Botanical art workshop (evening) Wed 6 December, 6pm-9pm
Fancy some "me time" before all the Christmas madness? Join us at Sweetgum Cottage in Hunua next Wednesday for our special nature journaling workshops with renowned Auckland botanical artist Jennifer Duval-Smith. Jennifer jokingly describes nature journaling as "the gateway drug to botanical art'... so come and get addicted. No artistic ability required (she promises!) We'll wander around the garden, picking flowers and noticing all of the little things that connect us to nature - then we'll head indoors for bubbles & a bite to eat as we observe, draw, sketch, paint & ponder.
About Jennifer:
Jennifer Duval-Smith is an Auckland based botanical artist who teaches art and nature journaling at the Auckland Botanic Gardens, Taranaki Garden Festival and Te Uru Contemporary Gallery. "What I love best about nature journaling," she says, "is that literally anybody can do it, and that everybody is surprised to notice things that they have never noticed before. You can journal on your own, with friends or with a child. Walking, traveling or working in your own garden there's a way to make it work for you. I've also noticed it's a gentle way to get back into art if you've been scared off at some point in your life. And after all, when have you ever regretted time spent immersed in nature?"
Jennifer's beautiful 2024 Reconnect with Nature Botanical Art Calendar will also be available to purchase for $29.95 (visit her website and online shop here). The calendar opens to A3 portrait format. It is printed locally here in Auckland, on lovely recyclable uncoated card. If being posted, it will be delivered in a waterproof envelope which can be recycled with your soft plastics.
