Bareroot Damson plum tree (+ get a free book!)
Every home orchard should have a tart, tangy damson plum. These English heirlooms have been grown in New Zealand since the mid 1800s and they are enjoying a huge culinary renaissance (mostly due to delicious damson gin!)
The damson is the ultimate preserving plum: the trees will bear their first fruit within two years and you can expect 10-20kg per tree. That's enough to fill your pantry with tangy jam, jelly, gin, chutney, paste and more!
One tree is all you need (they are self-fertile) and they have an upright habit, so they can easily be squeezed into most gardens. Prune after harvest each February to keep them to a manageable height for picking (3-4m).
NOTE: Pick up only, from Foggydale Farm, 358 Gelling Road, Hunua, 2583. (Please pay online first; trees will be allocated to each order. Offer available only while stocks last.) All orders before August 31 will receive a FREE autographed copy of Foggydale Farm Jam Sessions, worth $50, and a free planting sheet.
Please contact me at email@example.com if you live in West Auckland, Franklin, the Coromandel Peninsula, Hamilton or Auckland as I will have some deliveries to drop-off points in these areas.
To celebrate the publication of my next book, Damson: From Hedgerow to Harvest (available November 2018), these trees have been specially grafted for me (on hardy plum myrobalan rootstock) by Waimea Nurseries. They are bareroot, and bundled with mulch in a recycled, eco-friendly coffee sack; get them in the ground before mid September.
